PicsArt was built for a phone screen, which is exactly the problem once you are doing anything finer than a crop. PicsArt does have a desktop and browser version, but they are trimmed compared to the Android app, and tutorials almost always follow the mobile layout. Running the phone build on a big screen keeps every tool exactly where you expect it, and an Android emulator is what makes that possible — LDPlayer in this case. Below are the questions I actually had to answer while setting it up.

Will it run on my version of Windows?

Yes, and you do not need a new machine for it. LDPlayer covers Windows 7 through Windows 11, 32-bit or 64-bit, on desktops and laptops alike. Start with the emulator itself:

Once it is installed, open it and sign in to a Google account inside the emulator — open the Play Store app and use your Gmail address. That account is optional, though: you can install PicsArt from its APK file instead and never link one.

How do I install PicsArt itself?

Search the Play Store inside LDPlayer and hit Install, or open the listing directly at Get PicsArt on Google Play. It is a large app, so give the install a couple of minutes before the icon appears on the emulator's home screen.

How do I get my own photos into it?

This is the part nobody warns you about. The emulator has its own storage, so a file sitting on your Windows desktop is not automatically visible to PicsArt. LDPlayer lets you drag an image straight onto the emulator window to copy it across, and it also exposes a shared folder you can point at a Windows directory. I set the shared folder up on day one and stopped thinking about it.

Is a mouse actually usable for editing?

For masking and fine brush work, honestly, less so than a finger. The mouse is far more precise for selecting tools, dragging layers and typing text, and much worse for the sweeping gestures PicsArt's brush tools expect. My compromise is to do layout, text and adjustments here and leave detailed brushwork on the phone.

Do my projects and subscription carry over?

Sign in with the same PicsArt account you use on your phone and your saved projects and any Gold subscription come with you. It is the account that carries them, not the device, so nothing needs exporting first.

Does any of this cost money?

The emulator does not. LDPlayer is free to download and run, and installing PicsArt through it costs nothing extra. PicsArt's own in-app purchases work exactly as they do on a phone — being on a computer does not unlock anything.

What if it lags when I export?

Export is the heaviest thing you will ask of it, and it is where an underfed emulator shows. Giving LDPlayer more CPU cores and RAM in its settings made the difference on my laptop; the performance optimization guide walks through which values are worth changing. Fair warning: that settings panel is dense, and finding the right one takes a minute.

And if the emulator will not start at all?

A black window or a hang on launch is almost always virtualization or graphics drivers, both of which the troubleshooting guide covers. It has been stable for me once running, but it is worth knowing where to look before you need it.

Editing on a 15-inch screen instead of a 6-inch one changes how much of a photo you can actually see while you work on it. That alone justified the setup for me.

It is also a heavy application by phone-app standards, so give the emulator generous storage — the app, its downloadable content packs and your saved projects add up faster than you would expect.

What you should not expect it to do

Two things. The camera-based tools assume a real camera, and the emulator's virtual one is not a substitute, so anything that shoots rather than edits belongs on the phone. And large exports lean on memory: a high-resolution canvas with several layers is the point where an under-provisioned emulator starts refusing to save. Both are avoidable if you know about them in advance, which is the entire reason for mentioning them.
